Nach Kennedy gibt es einen Unterschied zwischen Waste und Trash. "Waste, we learn, stinks of the body." Kennedy scheint mit Irrgang einer Meinung darin zu sein, dass Technik dem Menschlichen schadet: "Chapter five ... shows how the technological manner of taking care of things, as our modern mode of being, signifies our failure to be truly human. ... The phenomenon of trash exists as long as we fail to exist as humans."
